New Safety Measures Coming to Noida-Greater Noida Expressway

The Noida-Greater Noida Expressway is undergoing a major safety enhancement, with Noida Authority initiating an Rs eight crore infrastructure upgrade. This expressway, a key arterial route between Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida, and Yamuna Expressway, is set to see critical changes aimed at improving commuter safety.

Work to Begin from Sector 14A; Tender Issued

Covering 24 km in total, 20 km of this high-speed corridor falls under the Noida Authority and the remaining four km under the Greater Noida Authority. Starting from Sector 14A, the entire stretch will be revamped. Officials have floated a tender, and applications are open until May 15.

Night Visibility to Improve with Solar Markers

The plan includes replacing outdated road signage with updated boards and installing solar-powered reflectors to aid visibility at night. Thermoplastic paint will be used for long-lasting lane markings. Exit points will receive rumble strips and speed limit indicators to reduce speeding risks.

Missing Infrastructure Identified in Safety Audit

A traffic audit by the Regional Centre for Urban and Environmental Studies (RCUES) found several deficiencies. Key components like lane dividers, cat-eye reflectors, and direction markers were either faded or missing entirely. Bollards, which help guide and separate traffic, were absent in many sections. Kilometre indicators and clear entry/exit signage were also lacking, especially impacting non-local drivers.

Infrastructure Will Adhere to IRC Standards

The upgrades will conform to Indian Road Congress (IRC) regulations. This includes clearly visible lane separation, defined access points, and better traffic guidance systems. The goal is not only to prevent further accidents but to streamline vehicular movement along this crucial expressway.

Commuter Facilities to Be Easier to Locate

Though no structural modifications are planned for the 13-foot overbridges and around 20 public sanitation units along the route, signage will be installed for easier location access, particularly important during low-light travel.
